The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police was an animated comedy series based on the highly popular underground comic series of the same name. Both were created by Steve Purcell. Its sense of humor was irreverent, silly and a little edgy for what was arguably a kid's show. The two main characters are a private investigation duo. Sam is a 6 foot tall anthropomorphic dog dressed in a film noir style suit and hat voiced by Harvey Atkin. Max is a 3 foot tall 'hyperkinetic rabbity thing' voiced by Robert Tinkler. Sam and Max were always assigned missions by their mysterious Commissioner (voiced by Dan Hennessey), who they never saw in person. Their investigative missions always took them to weird and wild places such as Mount Olympus, the Moon, the center of the Earth or Bohunk Lagoon, a watery place full of mutants. In their free time Sam and Max would time travel, go bigfoot hunting and spelunk through their fridge. The show produced 24 episodes and won the 1998 Gemini award for best animated series. It was cancelled in 1998.MORE
