RuPaul’s Drag Race is a reality television series for the Logo channel where famous drag queen RuPaul mentors a group of aspiring drag queens and engages them in challenges to determine who will be the next superstar. Because he plays dual roles, RuPaul plays a role of guidance as a man and a role of judgment as his drag queen persona. The contestants must undergo photoshoots, runway shows, and other glamorous face-offs, and at the end of each episode and beauty contest where they present their own costumes, the bottom queens must “lip sync for their life” for RuPaul to determine who will “shante” and stay or “sashay away. In addition to being fabulous, these drag queens must embody the qualities of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent. One thing’s for sure, the claws on these queens will definitely come out as they compete for the crown. Judging alongside RuPaul are fashion journalist and author Merle Ginsberg and Project Runway designer Santino Rice, as well as guest judges like Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, Robin Antin, the creator of the Pussycat Dolls, actress Tori Spelling, and designer Bob Mackie.
