She originally weighed 700 pounds, and was down to 477 when she started the show, having taken the advice of a doctor who said that she needed to change her life or risk death, due to diabetes that had set in because of her obesity. Ruby works with nutritionists and doctors to eat right, and trainers to exercise, to help her lose more weight. The show chronicles not only her methods of weight loss, but all the things that come with it, like creating a new look for herself, coping with confidence issues, and figuring out why she was overeating in the first place. Ruby's southern charm, honest and humorous commentary on her journey, and good heart make it heartwarming to watch her on a sometimes-difficult quest. She has the support of very close friends, and goes out of her way to make sure that other people in her situation also get the support they need, starting a group for obese women and sharing her story, through her show, her website, and a book. As Ruby improves her own health and figures out what was the real factor in destroying it in the first place, she hopes to help others do the same. MORE
