Route 66

Route 66 is an adventure television series that originally aired on CBS in the early 60's and is remembered for the convertible Corvette and the instrumental theme song that was composed and performed by Nelson Riddle which became an instant pop hit. The series follows two young men, Tod Stiles (Martin Milner) and Buz Murdock (George Maharis) as they travel across America in their Corvette. Tod is an educated, privileged guy from Yale and Buz is a streetwise orphan from Hell's Kitchen. When Tod's father died, all he left him was a corvette and since Buz became unemployed because he worked for Tod's father, this dynamic duo set out on the open road together. In an era when critics lambasted television series for being a Òvast wastelandÓ, Route 66 stood out with its Oscar Winning writing, compelling story lines and complex characters. These two socially aware dark knights of the road, enlighten and revitalize troubled people that they find themselves learning from.
