Reel 13 is a collaborative effort put on by filmmakers and film lovers. Each week, aspiring filmmakers have a chance to air their work on Thirteen/WNET, America's most-watched public tv station. The film that garners the most votes gets the opportunity to be viewed by millions of people around the world. The weekly schedule for Reel 13 includes a classic feature film, the aforementioned short film chosen by visitors to the Reel 13 website, and a new independent feature film. Notable indie films to air on the show include Troubled Water, directed by Erik Poppe, a story about a newly released ex-con who must face an encounter with his dark past; Gigante, from director Adrian Biniez, detailing a supermarket security guard's relationship with a janitor; and Yeast, directed by Mary Bronstein and featuring Greta Gerwig, in which a young woman tries desperately to salvage two of her friendships. Reel 13 shorts are curated by Colleen McHugh. The host of Reel 13 Classics is Neal Gabler, with Richard Pena handling hosting duties for the Indies portion.MORE
