Read or Die

Read or Die is a 2001 Japanese OVA (Original Video Animation) produced by Studio Deen based on the novels by Hideyuki Kurata. Set in the near future, it begins with the destruction of the White House and the Library of Congress by a strange man in a samurai costume. It is up to Yomiko Readman (Rieko Miura, Kimberly Yates), a member of Britain's top-secret library special operations unit, to track him down. She is joined by her fellow operatives Nancy Makuhari (Michiko Neya, Amanda Winn Lee), and Drake Anderson (Masami Iwasaki, Jaxon Lee). The stakes are raised when they discover that the mysterious figure is actually seeking a lost Beethoven symphony that, when played, causes the listeners to kill themselves. Meanwhile, famous historical figures from the past are inexplicably reappearing. This movie is 90 minutes long, and serves as a prequel to the 26 episode anime series of the same title that was released in 2003. MORE
