Punky Brewster

Punky Brewster is a show about a spunky girl of the same name (Soleil Moon Frye) who is abandoned in a shopping center by her mother with only her trusty dog Brandon at her side, and fortunately finds an empty apartment in a building owned by photographer Henry Warnimont (George Gaynes) and inhabited by nurse Betty Johnson (Susie Garrett) and her granddaughter Cherie (Cherie Johnson). Cherie and Punky are about the same age and become fast friends, and Henry, who is naturally a curmudgeonly man, upon first discovering Punky and Brandon in his apartment reluctantly agrees to let her stay until children’s services can care for her. Once she’s gone he realizes that he had grown to care for Punky and moves to become her legal guardian but throughout the series the two of them come up against bureaucratic red tape as their relationship grows. When Punky is enrolled in school, she makes more friends including Allen Anderson (Casey Ellison) and rich girl Margaux Kramer (Ami Foster). Punky’s style became somewhat of a recognizable costume, as she regularly sported bright, multicolored outfits and pigtails, and her theme song was “every Time I Turn Around” by Gary Portnoy. MORE
