Planet Earth is an award-winning BBC nature documentary, representing over five years of work around the world as the filmmakers tried to capture the great diversity of our natural world in high definition. The series consists of eleven episodes, which look deeply at ten different habitats from around the world and the animals and plants that populate Earth’s farthest corners. From the mysterious blind creatures of pitch-black caves to the select few animals and plants that can survive in the most extreme deserts, Planet Earth is a comprehensive appraisal of our planet and the life that flourishes here. Each episode is fifty minutes long. The original production was narrated by David Attenborough, while the Discovery Channel adaptation was narrated by Sigourney Weaver. The series was conceived after another BBC nature series, The Blue Planet, found critical and commercial success in 2001.
