Out of Egypt

Out of Egypt is a Discovery Channel series that delves into the minds of cultures of the past. The series is hosted by UCLA Professor of Egyptian Art and Architecture Dr. Kara Cooney who searches for the "why" and "how" of differing ancient civilization's actions and the implications of their similarities. Dr. Cooney explores these similarities in the different cultures' rituals, beliefs, and even architecture. She delves into the possibility that their similarities are no coincidence. While it is clear that they had no influence on each other, Out of Egypt makes it clear that certain ancient civilizations bear striking resemblances to each other in various way despite their distance and independence from other civilizations. Dr. Cooney poses the idea that human instinct is the explanation to what she thinks are most likely not coincidences. To truly understand the mindset of these ancient people, she immerses herself in the culture itself. She takes part in different rituals, ceremonies and visiting special shrines which advocate the belief in the power of relics. She investigates the similar architecture and style of civilizations which are thousands of miles apart and thousands of years apart.
