Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit

Moribito is an animated fantasy TV series developed by Production I.G. based on Nahoko Uehashi's novel of the same name that centers on Balsa, a rather skilled and honorable female warrior working as a warrior-for-hire. When she is hired by the Second Empress to protect her second son, Chagum, Balsa finds herself at odds with her desire to atone for the eight lives lost from her youth with her task to protect Chagum from an entire nation. It seems that Chagum had been sentenced to death when his connection to a water spirit is thought to be a result of a demonic possession and the cause of the drought affecting the country. The two take to the outside world to hide from the Hunters, pursuers hired by the Emperor to capture and return Chagum back to the palace to be executed. As the two run, others chase, and Chagum's older brother Sagum handles the responsibilities of Crown Prince, the Star Diviners work to prove that Chagum's water spirit is more a blessing than a curse.
