Monarch of the Glen

Monarch of the Glen is a 2000 romantic-comedy television series on BBC, created by Michael Chaplin. The series is loosely based on Compton Mackenzie’s Highland Novels, focusing on young restaurateur Archibald ‘Archie’ Horatio Hector MacDonald (Alastair Mackenzie) who is trying to restore his 40,000-acre childhood home in the Scottish Highlands after having been informed that he is now the Laird of Glenbogle. Archie is set upon forcing the somewhat run-down estate into the 21st Century, despite all the obstacles that pop up along the way. His renovation attempts are overshadowed, however, by all the romance and drama, both romantically-related and otherwise-occurring, that dominate each episode. The show was received well, running for a lengthy seven seasons from February 2000 to October 2005, totaling 64 episodes. Monarch of the Glen earned a 2005 BAFTA Scotland Award and nominations for another 2005 BAFTA Scotland Award, as well a nomination for a 2000 TV Quick Award. MORE
