Mental

Mental is a psycho-medical drama that aired on Fox for one season (2009). Its protagonist, Dr. Jack Gallagher (Chris Vance), is a doctor whose unconventional treatment methods prove troublesome for colleagues. He has a unique ability to cure, or at least help, patients by getting inside their heads and helping them resolve issues imperative to full and genuine recovery. (This is a fascinating focus that distinguishes Mental from similar medical shows such as ER, Grey's Anatomy, and House.) His unorthodox approach turns out to be symptomatic of his four-year search for his schizophrenic twin sister, as well as his own fear of mental disintegration. Jack's professional and sometimes romantic match, hospital administrator Nora Skoff (Annabella Sciorra), is Mental's female protagonist whose traditional practices both balance and clash with Jack's. Lovers of medical drama won't want to miss this brief but provocative series whose final episode is a "Mental" (pardon the pun) exercise in astonishment and irony. MORE
