Megas XLR initially got it’s start through a Cartoon Network animated TV show competition. Back in 2002, Cartoon Network held a contest for viewers to watch a smattering of cartoon pilots and then vote for their favorite one to become a series regular. The Megas XLR won the competition with their pilot Lowbrow, and began working on creating a full season shortly after the victory. The series is set in the distant future where the humans of Earth are struggling in an epic war against an alien race known as the Glorft. In a desperate attempt to stave off the aliens, a band of humans steal an enormous Glorft robot that becomes known as Megas – Mechanized Earth Guarding Attack System – and decide to send the prototype back in time, to when the Glorft first arrive, in hopes to expel the invaders before their foothold becomes too strong. Though Megas XLR was ended after only two seasons, it has inspired such a loyal following that there is talk of bringing the show back to Cartoon Network’s regular slate.MORE
