Maya & Miguel

Maya and Miguel is an animated children's TV series created by PBS Kids that centers on the lives of ten-year-old Hispanic twins, Maya and Miguel Santos, their bilingual pet parrot, Paco, and their friends Maggie, Theo, Chrissy, and Andy. The show follows the adventures of the Santos's diverse neighborhood as the impulsive and slightly ignorant Maya, who likes to meddle in everyone's lives, gets all of her friends to take part in her crazy schemes and ideas. Her practical and sensible twin Max would rather play soccer, competing against Theo, but he finds a little bit of comfort in keeping a tally of all the times Maya's ideas have gone wrong. Her well-intentioned meddling tends to create more problems than intended but ultimately it works out in the end, highlighting that doing good for the community is better than acting selfishly. Each episode has a special emphasis on vocabulary, with a new set of vocabulary words introduced and repeated by the characters. May and Miguel offers a fun, relevant, and rewarding way to learn culture and language while also teaching children to value and respect a variety of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. MORE
