Marcus Welby, M.D. is a medical drama TV series developed by ABC that centers on Marcus Welby (Robert Young), a kind and relatively unorthodox older doctor practicing in Santa Monica, California who finds himself at a clash with his younger, more by-the-book Dr. Steven Kiley (James Brolin). A little bit of the reversal of the old-school older doctor versus the young hip new one, Marcus Welby, M.D. followed their relationship both in and out of the office as they take their house calls. The two are helped and refereed by their two secretary-nurses Consuelo Lopez (Elena Verdugo) and Kathleen Faverty (Sharon Gless), with the occasional visits from Welby's daughter Sandy (Anne Schedeen) and her son Phil (Gavin Brendan), as they cope with the sniffles and aches of their patients. Marcus Welby, M.D. was a bit of a rabblerouser in its time as it brought up issues regarding a slew of medical problems, such as STDs, epilepsy, rape, addiction, depression, and breast cancer, which were not often talked about on TV. Both Young and Brolin were awarded Emmy Awards for their work in this series.MORE
