MadTV

MadTV is an American sketch comedy television show produced by FOX. MadTV is based on the humor magazine MAD and features many hilarious parodies relevant to pop culture. The one-hour comedy was first broadcast on October 14, 1995 and was aired every subsequent Saturday since its cancellation on May 16, 2009. Comedy Central picked up it's right and has been on syndication ever since. MadTV was taped in front of a live audience and derives most of its comedic parodies from movies, music, other sitcoms, topical news, and television advertisements. Similar in format to that of Saturday Night Live, MadTV had well thought out sketches where every actor and comedian was able to rehearse multiple times until they got it right. MadTV also had only a handful of live shows and were made for special occasions. Some of the most loved and tenured cast members include Michael McDonald, Aries Spears, Debra Wilson, Mo Collins, Bobby Lee, Nicole Sullivan, Alex Borstein, and Will Sasso. These mainstays managed to build a large following for their ability to play specific characters in relevant situations and use catch phrases that never seemed to get old. Michael McDonald was Stuart Larkin. Will Sasso did an impressionable Steven Seagal. Alex Borstein was hilarious as Ms. Swan. An the ever popular sketch about finding love online, "Lowered Expectations." Through it's fourteen seasons, MadTV managed to stay relevant because the show truly is hilarious. MORE
