Luther is a psychological crime drama developed by Neil Cross for BBC that follows Detective Chief Inspector John Luther (Idris Elba) as he returns to duty following a traumatic breakdown spawned by the heavy weights of his job. Working for London's Serious Crime Unit (SCU), Luther's privileged to see all the dark undersides and gruesome dredges society has to offer. Dedicated, talented, and passionate in what he does, Luther struggles to deal with his desire to find the criminals out there while also trying to keep his marriage to Zoe (Indira Varma), whose fallen in love with another man, the complete opposite human rights lawyer Mark North (Paul McGann) unbeknownst to her husband, alive. Assisting him is research scientist Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson), who Luther swears killed her parents, his young idealistic partner Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley (Warren Brown), his understanding and supportive boss Detective Superintendent Rose Teller (Saskia Reeves).
