League of Gentlemen

League of Gentleman is a British sketch comedy show that ran on BBC from January 1999 to October 2002, starring the British comedy quartet of the same name, made up of Jeremy Dyson, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith. Set in the fictional village of Royston Vasey, somewhere in the north of England, the show follows the lives of the village’s bizarre inhabitants, most of which are played by the various members of the quartet, wearing a variety of different guises and accents. The series incorporates plenty of dark humor, with many scenes inspired by horror films and documentaries, including The Wicker Man and Change of Sex. With a foul mouthed mayor (Roy “Chubby” Brown) and a somewhat ominous village sign that reads “Welcome to Royston Vasey. You’ll never leave,” the show is full of sarcastic wit and humor for an adult audience. The show received great critical acclaim, including a BAFTA Award, a Royal Television Society Award, the Golden Rose of Montreux and others. MORE
