Law & Order: Trial by Jury is an NBC legal drama spin-off of the long-running Law & Order TV series, following the prosecution and defense teams as they prepare for and try criminal cases. The stories are told not only from the side of the prosecutors and police officers, but also from that of the defense attorneys, defendants, judges, and jurors. Showing the inner workings of the judicial system, the show begins by showing a witness or victim telling a story about the crime which has already happened. Then each side goes through building their cases, investigating leads, interviewing and preparing witnesses, and testing their cases on test juries. Bureau Chief Tracy Kibre (Bebe Neuwirth) is a tough and focused prosecutor who works as the Assistant District Attorney. Her younger assistant ADA Kelly Gaffney (Amy Carlson) is by-the-book and often challenges Kibre. DA Investigator Hector Salazar (Kirtk Acevedo) is a former police detective, and DA Investigator Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) is his partner. His second partner is Detective Chris Ravell (Scott Cohen) and DA Arthur Branch (Fred Thompson) rounds out the cast.
