LA Ink is a reality show on TLC that follows Kat Von D's tattoo shops, High Voltage Tattoo and American Electric, in Los Angeles, California. Kat Von D originally began tattooing in the spotlight with Chris Nunez on the other TLC hit show, Miami Ink, but was fired after conflicts with the other artists. She then moved back to her hometown of Los Angeles and opened her own tattoo shop. Finally her own boss, Kat is able to hire artists she respects, and the show begins with the biggest talent around: Hannah Aitchison, Kim Saigh, and Corey Miller. Kat even hires her friend, Pixie, to work the front desk. She decks out her new space with gold couches, a skate ramp, a stripper pole, and lots of artwork from her friends and fellow artists; she wants her shop to represent what is important to her and to Los Angeles culture. Known for her penchant to party, Kat struggles to juggle her friends, love interests, and employees while also booking the biggest and best clients for her colorful new shop. Each episode features a new set of clients, each of whom has some incredible story to tell while they are getting inked. Kat is best known for her black and grey portrait work, but she hires a wide range of talents for her shop so that they can complete any tattoo request with ease. Over the years, other artists have joined the cast, such as Dan Smith and Ruth Pineda.
