La Femme Nikita is an action-drama show produced by Warner Brothers and Jay Firestone that premiered on January 13, 1997. The series, which aired on USA Network in America and CTV in Canada, is based on the 1990 Luc Besson film, Nikita, and was adapted for television by Joel Surnow. Nikita (Peta Wilson), a homeless young women living on the streets, is arrested after being framed for the murder of a cop in a city alleyway. While in prison, Nikita is recruited by the secret counterterrorism organization, Section One, who believes she is a ruthless killer with the potential to become an top agent and assassin. Though Nikita initially resists her recruitment, maintaining her innocence, she quickly realizes that she will be “cancelled” (killed) if she does not comply. Section One offers Nikita a new life; one where she must never contact anyone from her previous life. She is trained by the mysterious and stone-faced Michael (Roy Dupuis), and she quickly becomes a valuable operative to the Section, who often utilize her wit and beauty on missions. Despite the brutal nature of the Section’s work, Nikita manages to make friends within the cold confines of her workplace, including weapons managers, Walter (Don Francks) and computer genius, Birkoff (Matthew Ferguson). All Section operatives are kept under the watchful eyes of section leader Operations (Eugene Robert Glazer) and strategist Madeline (Alberta Watson). La Femme Nikita aired for five seasons before it was cancelled. In 2010, the CW announced a plan to develop a reincarnation of La Femme Nikita. The new series will be entitled “Nikita.MORE
