Knight Rider is a one hour crime action drama that aired on NBC between 1982 and 1986 on NBC. The show centers around Michael Knight, played by David Hasselhoff and his car, the Knight Industries Two Thousand or K.I.T.T. Kitt, as he is affectionately called is a Pontiac Trans-AM that has artificial intelligence, receives verbal commands from Michael, speaks, and sometimes even jokes. Together they fight crime for a public justice organization called the Foundation for Law and Government or FLAG. FLAG is a program of the Knight Foundation, founded by billionaire Wilton Knight. Wilton Knight gives Michael Long, an injured detective a new identity as Michael Knight. The cast is rounded out by Devon Miles, played by Edward Mulhare, who plays the head of Flag, and Dr. Bonnie Barstow, played by Patricia McPherson as kitt's mechanic. The beautiful Dr. Barstow also provides continued romantic repartee for the show. To put it in a nutshell, Knight Rider is a blend of James Bond, The Lone Ranger with a very smart automobile! The show typically has a denouement where kitt jumps over something, and they catch the 'bad guys". The theme song and red oscillating light in front of kitt have become cultural icons. The show had a sequel movie called Knight Rider 2000, released in 1991, and a spinoff NBC show called Knight Rider that aired in 2008 and featured Knight Automated Roving Robot or KARR, a kitt prototype gone rogue, and thus becoming an enemy of kitt.MORE
