Jon and Kate Plus 8 is a reality series produced by Figure 8 Films that follows Jon and Kate Gosselin as they navigate through their hectic lives as parents to eight young children. The show originated from a one-hour special on Discovery Health entitled Surviving Sextuplets and Twins that aired on May 14th, 2006 and gave viewers a glance into the lives of Jon and Kate and their sets of twins and sextuplets. After a second hour-long special aired in January 2007, Discovery Health picked up Jon and Kate Plus 8 as a regular 30-minute show. The series began on April 10th, 2007 and brought viewers into the Gosselin’s Pennsylvania home where Jon and Kate lived with their twin girls Cara and Mady, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel. Each episode follows the Gosselins as they go about their daily lives, do errands and activities around town, and occasionally embark on an out-of-town adventure. The show also features short interview segments with Jon and Kate, and occasionally the children, as they discuss the day’s activities and any problems or issues that may have arisen. After the show aired for two seasons on Discovery Health, TLC picked up the series and continued the show for three more seasons. Season five chronicled Jon and Kate’s separation, which was officially announced mid-season on June 22nd, 2009. The show has since adopted the new titled Kate Plus 8, which premiered on June 6th, 2010, and features Kate and her children without Jon.MORE
