Jejoongwon is a 2010 Korean drama series starring Park Yong Woo, Han Hye Jin, and Yeon Jung Hoon in a historical fiction story about aspiring medical students from vastly different backgrounds who are brought together by their quest for a position at Korea's first modern hospital, Jejoongwon. Jejoongwon hospital opened in 1885 and revolutionized Korean medicine. This series is an all-new kind of hospital drama, focusing on three young people hoping to find a place for themselves in the new field of medicine. Park Yong Woo plays Hwang Jung, a skilled butcher who, after being unable to save his ill mother's life, decides to use his skill with knives to become a surgeon and save others. Han Hye Jin plays Seok Ran, the daughter of a politician who dreams of becoming a doctor decades before female physicians are accepted by Korean culture.
