James May's Toy Stories is a documentary TV show that features James May bringing favorite toys of past eras into light with life-size large-scale endeavors. In each episode, May delves into the history of the featured toy and announces the grandiose building plans for the day. May's impetus for the show is to attract children away from video games and instead focus on playing with real toys with their parents and friends. Throughout the six-episode series, May builds spectacular structures such as a 1:1 model of a Spitfire aircraft using fiberglass pieces modeled off of the Airflix toys. Also included in the show's repertoire are a garden of Plasticine, a 75 foot Meccano bridge, a 2.75 mile-long Scalextric track, a full-sized Lego house, and a 10-mile miniature Hornby railway. Each of the structures is tested for soundness and utility, and the building projects can take up to a month to complete, even with hundreds of volunteers.MORE
