The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries, a BBC original detective drama, aired originally between 1990 and 1994. Based on the first nine Roderick Alleyn novels by Ngaio Marsh, the show follows Detective Inspector Alleyn, played by Simon Williams in the pilot episode, in his quest to solve mysteries in 1940s Britain. Each of the nine episodes are based on a separate novel and eight of the nine feature Patrick Malahide as Alleyn. Other characters include Agatha Troy (Belinda Lang), Sergeant Bailey (Tim Dutton), Assistant Commissioner Connors (Leslie Schofield), and Detective Constable Robins, played by Sandy Welch. Each episode is in classic murder mystery style, with the climax arriving as the audience discovers who amongst the characters is the murderer.
