I Spy was NBC spy series starring Bill Cosby and Robert Culp. The two actors play a globetrotting pair of playboy spies with an unusual cover story – tennis bums. Robert Culp plays Kelly Robinson, a formerly great international tennis star turned secret agent who is perfectly happy to play the occasional amateur game with wealthy socialites in exchange for food and lodging. Together with his "trainer" Alexander Scott, played by Bill Cosby, the spies use tennis to cover their espionage-related travel. Most notable for its role in advancing the color barrier in television, I Spy was the first TV Drama with an African-American actor in a primary role. Though the show dealt with other more serious subjects, such as heroine addiction, episodes never addressed the racial differences between the two main characters.
