I Dream of Jeannie

I Dream of Jeannie is a fantasy sitcom that aired on NBC in the 1960s and focuses on Tony Nelson (Larry Hagman) and Jeannie (Barbara Eden) as they struggle to live a normal life despite the fact that one of them lives in a magic bottle and grants wishes for a living. Tony, an astronaut and Captain of the US Air Force, finds Jeannie's bottle when he is stranded on an island in the South Pacific. Jeannie, appearing to Tony in the two-piece costume the show made so famous, grants his wish to be saved. Thankful, Tony sets Jeannie free but, because has already fallen for the Captain, Jeannie follows him home. The rest is sitcom history; each episode portrays Jeannie causing trouble for Tony by using her powers and disobeying his orders. Jeannie's love for Tony is a constant plot device during the run of the show, and eventually leads to the marriage of the two friends by the end of the show's run. I Dream of Jeannie was followed by an animated television show called Jeannie (1973), and two television movies, I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later (1985) and I Still Dream of Jeannie (1991).
