Huckleberry Hound

Huckleberry Hound is an animated series created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1958. The show was comprised of three segments, one featured Huckleberry Hound, a laid back dog with a southern drawl; another starred Yogi Bear and his pal Boo Boo; and a third with Pixie and Dixie, two mice who spend their time outsmarting a cat named Mr. Jinks. Because of the ppopularity of Yogi Bear, the picnic basket fiend would go on to have his own show in 1961. That same year, Huckleberry Hound was honored with an Emmy Award, the first time an animated program was singled out by the television academy. Many consider Huckleberry Hound as the program that catapulted Hanna-Barbera into the household name category. The series featured the voices of Daws Butler, Don Messick, Doug Young, and Hal Smith, and was narrated by Don Messick. One of Huckleberry Hound's trademarks was to break the fourth wall, that is, speak directly with the television audience as if there were nothing separating them. MORE
