How To Make It In America is the HBO series from Entourage creators Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg that follows twenty-something hustlers in New York City. The two enterprising friends are Ben Epstein (Bryan Greenberg) and Cameron "Cam" Calderon (Victor Rasuk), who are trying to work their way up in the fashion scene. Ben is a fashion school dropout who has potential but lacks focus, and his buddy Cam is the street-smart and just as clueless as he is determined. With the help of their well-connected socialite friend Domingo (Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi) and Cam's cousin Rene (Luiz Guzman), the two try to launch their own denim line. When they take out a loan from recovering criminal Rene, they get in over their head on the payments, and constantly have to scramble to get him what they owe. Fueled by determination and dreams, but lacking the business and industry knowledge, the two struggle to get their line off the ground. Rene also has the entrepreneurial spirit, and tries his hand at making it big with a new energy drink called Rasta Monsta. The show also stars Rene Lake Bell, Martha Plimpton, and Shannyn Sossamon, and features a funky theme song "I Need A Dollar" by soul singer Aloe Blacc. I felt so bad for Ben at the end when he got double blonde ambushed over the phone...just the look on his face right before they cut to the credits was soooo defeated it was so sad...(watch at http://vimeo.com/32435040 ) I did love that they used N*E*R*D's "Sooner or Later" as the song over the end credits though! That definitely brightened the mood.
