Hawkeye And The Last Of The Mohicans is the 1957 Western TV series that tells the story of Nat "Hawkeye" Cutler and his Indian companion Chingachogook. The series stars John Hart as Hawkeye Cutler, a fur trader in the American West. Lon Chaney, Jr. co-stars as Chingachgook, a Mohican Indian who is the last of his tribe. The two fight to protect the settlers against the Huron Indians who are raiding their territory. Hawkeye and his faithful companion Chingachgook took on adventures in the old West, and the series was praised for having a realistic view of the time. The Indians in the show were portrayed as intelligent people with both good and bad people within their tribes, unlike many other portrayals at the time. The fights were realistic as were the props, wardrobe and sets. The series was loosely based on The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper.
