Ground War on PBS is a four-part series that explores the evolution of ground warfare. Ground combat has been constantly redefined from the times of the chariot to today's tanks and other weaponry. This series goes far beyond simply describing weapons used over the ages, though; it provides an in-depth look at how technological advances and strategic breakthroughs - some planned, some unexpected - have affected ground warfare. Even the smallest changes such as the stirrup, a classic advance, and less-known innovations like the gunner's quadrant have had significant and wide-ranging influence on ground warfare tactics and outcomes on the battlefield. The series also explores how these advances have influenced commanders and soldiers on the battlefield as they adapt to advances in equipment and tactics. Episodes include "Warrior Weapons," focusing on soldiers and their gear; "Battlefield Mobility," movement in the combat zone; "Firepower," advances in artillery; and "Command and Control," battlefield engineering.MORE
