Good Neighbours is a British sitcom that aired from April1975 to June 1978 on BBC, created by John Esmonde and Bob Larbey. On his 40th birthday, draughtsman Tom Good (Richard Briers) gives up his job at a company that makes plastic toys for cereal boxes, because he can no longer take the job seriously. He and his wife, Barbara Good (Felicity Kendal), decide that since their house is already fully paid for, they may as well remain there and try to live a self-sufficient, sustainable lifestyle without jobs. So out goes the lawn and in comes the fruit and vegetable garden. Out go the garden decorations and in come the chickens, pigs, a goat, and a cockerel. Out goes the electricity line and in comes the self-generated electricity, using the methane from animal waste. The two even try to make their own clothes and sell their surplus crops. Needless to say, their conventional neighbors, Margo Leadbetter (Penelope Keith) and Jeremy “Jerry” Leadbetter (Paul Eddington), are less than pleased with the new developments. Good Neighbours is an entertaining family show that attracted great audiences during its original airing, running for 4 seasons and totaling 30 episodes.MORE
