Generation Kill is an HBO miniseries event created by David Simon and based on the book of the same name by Evan Wright. The non-fiction book details Wright's experience as an embedded reporter with the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, including the essay he published in Rolling Stone that won the National Magazine Award for Excellence in Reporting in 2004. The book won several more awards and received acclaim for its honest and in-depth portrayal of the group of young marines. Following the book's critical and commercial success, David Simon and Ed Burns co-wrote the television adaptation that divided the story into seven one-hour installments. This brief series covers a great deal of material, with each episode packed with action and drama. The huge cast includes 28 starring roles and many more supporting characters.
