Felicity

Felicity is a drama from The WB that follows Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) as she struggles to find herself during her college years at the University of New York. Although Felicity was originally planning on attending Stanford University, she instead decides to pack up and move across the country to New York to follow her crush, Ben Covington (Scott Speedman). Although Felicity has high hopes for her life in New York, she realizes that her choice was rash when Ben seems to have no interest in dating her. Despite her parents' attempts to bring her back to California, Felicity is determined to stay in New York not for Ben, but for herself. She begins to make friends, including Julie Emrick (Amy Jo Johnson), Meghan Rotundi (Amanda Foreman), Sean Blumberg (Greg Grunbger), and Javier Quintana (Ian Gomez), and she realizes that she can be happy in New York. Most importantly, Felicity also meets Noel Crane (Scott Foley), her resident adviser, and the two begin an on-again off-again relationship that lasts throughout the series. Felicity often finds herself in a position of deciding between Noel and Ben, and this love triangle is a plot point during all four of the seasons. Many episodes of Felicity are framed by Felicity recording a tape to her at home friend, Sally Reardon (Janeane Garofalo), and this allows for her character to narrate a significant portion of each episode. Although Felicity was premiered to a large audience, ratings went down in 1999 around the same time as the star cut her hair to a short pixie cut. Although there is no proof that the haircut led to the low ratings, Felicity's move to short hair is still referenced in popular culture to this day.
