Family Feud

Family Feud is a popular game show in which two families compete against each other to provide the most popular answers to survey questions. Family members from each side take turns competing head-to-head in the “face-off” round, and the player who buzzes in to provide the more popular answer to the question gains control of the board. The contestants from the winning side take turns guessing the most popular answers, and receive a strike for each answer that does not appear on the board. After three strikes, control is shifted to the opposing family, who has the opportunity to “steal” the points the other family gained by providing a correct answer. After the round is finished, the same format is repeated, until the last rounds of the game, in which the points are doubled and tripled. The family with the highest score at the end of the game moves on to play “fast money,” a bonus round that requires the participation of two family members. The long-running show originally premiered on ABC in 1976, and was hosted by actor Richard Dawson. After being canceled in 1985, the show was picked up again by CBS in 1988, and canceled again in 1994. The show was reactivated yet again in 1999. Family Feud has cycled through a number of hosts over the years, including Ray Combs (CBS), Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, and John O’Hurley. The series will continue in September, 2010 and will be hosted by Steve Harvey. MORE
