Empires

Empires is a historical documentary TV series developed by PBS that follows the vast struggles of civilization from the early Egyptian Golden Empire, the peak of Greek civilization, the vast Roman Empire, through the height of the Italian Renaissance, Napoleon's reign, and Japan's mysterious shogun-ruled nation. Empires reflects upon the best and worst of humanity as each great era of history dealt with the struggles, triumphs, and loss with the use and abuse of power, bloodshed of war, and unparalleled ingenuity. How did each empire come to be such forces of their respective times? Empires surveys that question with reenactments, recounts of first hand accounts, and a production that is both a history lesson and a well-told story. Developed as a joint venture by PBS and Devillier Donegan Enterprises (DDE), each series is produced by leading independent documentary filmmakers with narrations by the likes of Sigourney Weaver, Keith David, Liam Neeson, Donald Sutherland, and Ben Kingsley.
