Elvira's Movie Macabre is a weekend horror show in the tradition of the 1950s Vampira Show and Los Angeles' Fright Night hosted by Sinister Seymour. Buxom actress Cassandra Peterson (Pee Wee's Big Adventure) scored host duties in 1981 against 200 others and was charged with creating the host's persona, first wanting to evoke ill-fated actress Sharon Tate from The Fearless Vampire Killers and eventually settling on the vixen-vamp image she made so iconic. She came up with a variation on Vampire and thus Elvira, Mistress of the Dark was born, a Gothic Valley Girl with a monolithic beehive and slinky black dress with a plunging neckline! On the show, Elvira would screen corny B movies and would offer her (gentle and humorous) biting views on the usually schlocky proceedings.
