ECW

ECW was a professional wrestling entertainment show that aired on SyFy as the third main program of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand, alongside Friday Night SmackDown and Monday Night Raw. ECW, or Extreme Championship Wrestling, was a popular independent label from 1992 to 2001 that was run by wrestling promoter Paul Heyman but ended up going bankrupt despite a sizeable and loyal fanbase. In 2003, the WWE started selling ECW merchandise, which promptly flew off the shelves. Taking note of the success, the WWE organized several ECW-centric pay-per-views, which also triumphed. Finally, in 2006, the WWE relaunched ECW as its own brand to stand beside its other flagship shows. The show premiered well on the SyFy network, with the famous "ECW! ECW! ECW!" chants raining down from the audience once again. However, as the years went on, the show lost favor with original ECW fans, who were upset with changes in the style and format of the program.
