Dragnet is the classic crime drama radio and later TV show which was syndicated as Badge 714, featuring the cases of Sergeant Joe Friday (Jack Webb), his partner Officer Frank Smith (Ben Alexander) and later partner Officer Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan). Friday and Gannon were on a mission to track down criminals throughout the streets of Los Angeles, California. Sgt. Friday is a no-nonsense and hard-nosed officer who investigates criminal cases like fraud, drug dealing, murder and robbery. One of television's first police dramas, Dragnet used cases pulled from actual police files, and the stories tried to portray a realistic investigation. Also dealing with social issues like drug use and racial tension, Dragnet became a pioneering show in the police genre, setting the standard for many television shows to come. Dragnet was also the first canceled network show that was revived, with a second run in 1967. The show also inspired the 2003 L.A.
