Downton Abbey is a British drama series set in pre-World War II era, during the reign of King George V. It follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants while living in Downton Abbey, their elegant home located in the charming town of Downton. The story begins with the sinking of the RMS Titanic and this tragedy carries a strong undercurrent throughout the series as it has left Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) without a male heir to inherit his fortune. The first episode is set during April of 1912, and though the first miniseries was only seven episodes long, it ends in late summer of 1914. The second series has not yet been aired and is being filmed, it is anticipated that it will continue with the story and portray how these unique characters come to terms with living through World War II.
