Degrassi High is a Canadian television show from CBC, a drama following the lives of teenagers who live near De Grassi Street in Ontario, Canada. It preceded by related shows Kids of Degrassi Street and Degrassi Junior High, followed them through high school, and was later followed by Degrassi: The Next Generation. The key characters are twins Erica and Heather Farrell (Angela and Maureen Deiseach), Joey Jeremiah (Pat Mastroianni), Archie "Snake" Simpson (Stefan Brogan), Derek "Wheels" Wheeler (Neil Hope), Caitlyn Ryan (Stacie Mistysyn), Christine "Spike" Nelson (Amanda Stepto), Michelle (Maureen McKay), Arthur (Duncan Waugh), Kathleen (Rebecca Haines), Diana (Chrissa Erodotou), and Claude (David Armin-Parcells). The show broke new ground as it covered teen pregnancy, abortion, drug use, alcoholism, teen suicide, promiscuity, parental abuse, and homosexuality. Several of the episodes were banned or re-edited when they aired in the United States to censor the more controversial issues. The show was followed by Degrassi: The Next Generation, which followed Emma, the offspring of Spike and Shane McKay, as she went into junior high and high school and faced many of the same issues along with her friends, including Paige, Spinner, Craig, Ashley, Terri and Jimmy.MORE
