Darker Than Black

Darker than Black is an animated science fiction noir TV series developed by Bones and Aniplex that centers on a world where the appearance of a demonic creation called Hell's Gate in Tokyo begins to alter the world around it, decimating the landscape and distorting the sky with fake stars As super-powered people known as Contractors emerge from the population, a mysterious organization called Syndicate uses those individuals in order to take on missions and assassinations throughout the world. For Hei, his normal life as a kind-hearted Chinese student is only a cover for his ruthless identity as the Black Reaper, a deadly assassin for the Syndicate with a contract talent to manipulate electricity as well as alter matter at a quantum level. Helping him is Yin, a medium with an ability to locate assassination targets, Huang, a human strategic advisor, and Mao, a Contractor whose abilities cost him his body and is now stuck to traveling between animal bodies. With little care to his 'jobs', Hei only wants to find out what happened to his sister Pai, another Contractor who disappeared with an eruption of another gate called the Heaven's Gate, and to stay a step ahead of the Japanese government out for his head.
