Cosmos is a television series written by Carl Sagan, Ann Druyan, and Steven Soter, which ran on PBS in 1980. Until the premiere of Ken Burns' "The Civil War" in 1990, it was the most watched PBS series in America. To this day, it remains the most watched PBS series worldwide. American astrophysicist and cosmologist Carl Sagan takes the viewer on a journey through our solar system and the outer reaches of space. It looks at the origins and growth of the earth and man's unending quest to find his place in an ever-changing world. When the series' 13 episodes began airing, Sagan went from scientist to full-fledged celebrity, sky-rocketing the sales of the show's companion book of the same name. In addition to jumpstarting Carl Sagan's carreer, Cosmos also brought the music of Greek composer Vangelis into American living rooms, using music from several of his 1970's albums.MORE
