Chico And The Man

Chico and the Man is a sitcom tv show which aired on NBC from 1974 to 1978 about the odd couple of Ed Brown (Jack Albertson), a cranky old garage owner in East LA, and Chico Rodriguez (Freddie Prinze) an ebullient Chicano street kid who ends up working at the garage. The series begins with Ed Brown as a drinking widower who has trouble adapting to the changing ethnic makeup of his neighborhood. He is against the Chicanos in the neighborhood and is adamently against giving Chico a job when he asks. Chico does not quit, but rather sneaks into the garage at night to clean up and sleeps in Ed's van inside. After seeing Chico's effort, Ed relents and gives Chico a job, thus beginning their close relationship. The show is notable fo the strong on-screen chemistry between Alberson and Prinze. Prinze committed suicide during the show's run, and while the show attempted to go on without him, the ratings never recovered after his death and was cancelled after the fourth season. The Chico and the Man theme song was sung by Jose Feliciano, who also made a guest appearance on the show. MORE
