Chef Academy

Chef Academy is a reality series on Bravo that follows world-renowned French chef, Jean Christophe Novelli as he trains aspiring chefs to become masters of the kitchen. The series premiered on November 16th, 2009, and aired for one nine-episode season. On the season premiere, Chef Novelli hand selects nine contestants to join his experimental kitchen academy based on how well they cook an egg. He enlists the help of his assistant, Steve Kitchen, for this task. The nine aspiring chefs who are selected are warned, however, that although they have made it into Novelli’s kitchen, they will be asked to leave if they fail three of his challenges. On each episode, Chef Novelli demonstrates his superior culinary talent and creates impressive, signature dishes while his students observe his methods. Afterwards, they are asked to recreate one of his dishes for a particular event, and Novelli judges each of their dishes, giving “pass” or “fail” grades. Unlike most elimination reality shows, Chef Academy does not eliminate one contestant per episode; contestants are only eliminated if they have failed three challenges.
