Carrier is a ten-part documentary series that aired on PBS in 2008. The series was developed by Mitchell Block and directed by Maro Chermayeff. Carrier revolves around the deployment of the supercarrier USS Nimitz, along with Carrier Air Wing Eleven from their home base in Coronado, California to the Persian Gulf for Operation Iraqi Freedom. On the way to the Persian Gulf, the ship stops at Hong Kong, Kuala Lampur, Hawaii, Bahrain, Guam, and Perth. Carrier holds the distinction of being the first documentary ever produced on active U.S. Naval warships. David Kennedy (Captain, U.S. Navy, Retired) acted as Consulting Producer for the series. In 2008, Carriers was honored with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program. Recipients included directors of photography Axel Baumann, Ulli Bonnekamp, Mark Brice, Robert Hanna, and Wolfgang Held.
