Californication

Caifornication is a television series from Showtime about Hank Moody (David Duchovny), a gifted author whose talents are as plentiful as his troubles. His relationship with ex-girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone) and their daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin) is the inspirations for trying to keep his life together, but his various addictions- sex, drugs, and alcohol- always seem to get in his way. Hank's job as a college professor is a perfect setting for his relentless but ill-advised womanizing. The struggles against the distractions around him, combined with the hedonism of Los Angeles, his desire to make things right with Karen and Becca, and accepting Karen's impending marriage to publisher Bill Lewis (Damian Young), leave him with a crippling case of writers block. Hank's troubles and yet another hurdle between him and proving himself to his family begin with a younger conquest he picks up in a bookstore. Mia (Madeline Zima), turns out to be Bill's daughter, and extorts stories from him to use for her creative writing class, using their illegal affair as leverage, later escalating her blackmail further when she steals a manuscript of Hank's, and passes it off as her own. It's three years later on the Showtime Original Series Californication and Hank Moody, having barely escaped jail time at the end of Season 4, is enjoying his freedom in New York City, away from the madness of L.A. But a bad break-up and a call from his old pal Charlie about a job send him back to the left coast. If staying out of trouble was the plan, the town he loves to hate has other ideas, as the movie Hank is hired to write stars a bad boy hip hop mogul extraordinaire who wants Hank for his wingman.
