Boy Meets World

Boy Meets World (BMW) is the long running 90's ABC family sitcom that follows a young boy, from a suburban family, from his preteen years up to married life. The show was originally part of the network's firday night lineup, known as TGIF. BMW's popularity soared through out it's entire 7 season run due to it's outstanding comedic writing, realistic dramatic points, and a great cast of actors lead by Ben Savage (younger brother of Wonder Years star Fred Savage). Savage plays the goofy and good-hearted youth Corey Matthews who attempts to understand life with the help of loyal best friend Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong), a boy from the trailer park who always gets into trouble while on a search for identity. Corey's "other" second half is his long time on-and-off girlfriend Topanga Laurence (Danielle Fishel) who's often honest and forthright attitude serves as a reality check for Corey's idealistic fantasies and neurotic habits. He often seeks guidance from his loving family, mother Amy (Betsy Randle), father Allan (William Russ), sarcastic younger sister Morgan (Lily Nicksay, Lindsay Ridgeway), cool older brother Eric (Will Friedle) - who grows into the comic relief as the show progressed- or his life long teacher/ mentor/ next-door-neighbor Mr. Feeney (William Daniels), who serves as the voice of reason and conscience for the entire show. As the show progressed, more characters came, went, and joined the regular cast. BMW deals with serious issues like child abuse, dangerous cults, death of a parent, racism, as well as pressures in a growing teens daily life like drugs, alcohol, and especially abstinence from sex (as Corey and Topanga remained virgins before marriage, despite reportedly being together for 15 years). BMW charm was in it's ability to be serious when need be and go the complete opposite way the rest of the time. It's continuity was somewhat of an inside joke to those that knew it well. Shawn's character starts out as a normal suburban kid with a sister named Debby, but then is changed to an only child from a trailer park, to having several half brothers through out various times in the show. Morgan disappears for an entire season, and then comes back played by a different older actress, claiming that she was on a very long time-out. BMW is now in syndication on ABC family mornings. MORE
