Boston Legal is an Emmy Award-winning legal dramedy that aired on ABC and starred James Spader, William Shatner, and Candice Bergen. The series, which is a spinoff The Practice, revolves around the lives of the attorneys of the Boston law firm of Crane, Poole & Schmidt. Alan Shore (James Spader), having just been fired from his old law firm and stuck with the insultingly insignificant severance package of fifteen thousand dollars, seeks representation from Crane, Poole & Schmidt, which he finds in Denny Crane (William Shatner). Denny wins Alan 2.3 million dollars from the old firm, then brings Alan aboard with his firm. Shore quickly bolsters his position as a star attorney, forgoing any lessons of ethics or integrity he may have learned in order to win cases. Candice Bergen (Shirley Schmidt) is the star litigator and top decision-maker in the firm, yet she is also responsible for repairing the damage that Denny creates with his behavior and public statements.
